Abstract

Published in 2014, the new critical edition of Franco Sacchetti’s Trecento Novelle is based on all witnesses and carries a large number of new readings; in terms of language, it presents the text in a consistent form, drawn from the newly discovered Oxford codex (G). Since the earliest witnesses date around two centuries after the work’s composition, it is very important to compare their linguistic behaviour with the extant autograph ms. of minor works (A). In response to an essay by Paolo Pellegrini, this article intends point out the many improvements in the new critical text and its application of the Anglo-American rationale of copy-text, within a more general theoretical framework.
